YKT: Ellen Page

YKT (You Know Them): Ellen Page with Hard Candy

All Information (that's not my opinion) is from:
Out: Now on DVD
Rated: R
Starring: Patrick Wilson and Ellen Page
Directed by: David Slade (Twilight fans: He's doing Eclipse!)

Summary: A mature 14-year old girl meets a charming 32-year old photographer on the Internet. Suspecting that he is a pedophile, she goes to his home in an attempt to expose him.

My Thoughts: The only other movie that I've seen Ellen Page in, thus far, is Juno. I'm sure this is not shocking to most people and a lot of you have probably seen the film yourself. However, I should just tell you now...Hardy Candy is nothing like Juno. It's not a coming-of-age, dorky comedy that practically everyone could enjoy.

Hard Candy, like the summary says above, is about the character of Hayley (Page) who starts getting to know a guy over the internet named Jeff (Wilson). The two eventually meet up at a cafe and Jeff takes Hayley back to his place. Once she's there, Hayley admires Jeff's work (he's a photographer and has photos of models on the wall) and they even begin to drink with Hayley getting her own, saying basically that "You should never let someone else pour your drink for you."

Think you know where this is going? I didn't know anything about the film before watching it in one of my classes, so it shocked me...but basically, instead of Jeff attacking Hayley, it's the opposite. She ties him up, tortures him in unique methods, and more to show that she won't just let him get away for hurting all those girls...touching them, killing even...
This small cast does an amazing job. I honestly got completely wrapped up in this film and thought that Ellen Page was tremendous. She really shows her talent in this film when you compare it to how she is in the role of Juno. I can't wait to see more by her, and I can't forget Patrick Wilson. He did just as brilliant of a job.

Once I finished watching Hard Candy, I wanted to start it over and watch it again. Too bad it was for class...but I'm definitely planning on renting or buying it as soon as I can.

What about you? Does it sound like something you'd like? Seen these actors in anything else? Have you already seen it, and if so, what did you think?

Alea: It really is one of those disturbing films, but I loved it. Very engrossing and makes you think a ton.

Amelia: Yes, I'd love to know what you think if you do. It's very interesting!

Liviania: Well, I hope you can see it soon then. If it sounds good to you, you'll probably enjoy it for the most part, if not completely. :)

I saw this movie and absolutely loved it. It was freaky as HELL, but boy oh boy was the acting and the set design so well done. The script was also fantastic.

I haven't seen Ellen Page in anything other than Juno unfortunately, but I HAVE seen Patrick Wilson in one other movie (with Kate Winslet) called Little Children, which is also a great, thought-provoking movie. It also helps that he's really nice to look at. ;) Oh, he was also in Watchmen, which is also fantastic, but more so if you're super into the graphic novel (definitely read it first before seeing the movie).

I saw this one a few years back it's CRAZY!! but I still really liked it. Elle Page has also come out on the x-men movies btw :D

Oh my gosh, why have I not heard about this movie until now? This sounds FANTASTIC, and your raves for it definitely count in my book. Patrick Wilson is also a very oddly long-haired Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera. Um, no comment. :]

I also just wanted to say thank you for spreading the news about my Support Teen Lit Giveaway. Lots of people have mentioned you as their referrers, which I love! Yay! :)

Steph Su: Aw, thank you so much, and I know! I didn't know much about it either. I guess because it's such a smaller, indie type film you know?

hahah I've never seen all of Phantom, but I did hear he was in it which kind of amused me after seeing his role in Hard Candy. If you see it, you HAVE to let me know what you think!

Aw, they have? That's awesome, I'm really glad. It's no problem!

Robin: Oh, it's definitely crazy, but I'm glad you enjoyed it too!
And yes, she was in that wasn't she? I knew that, but I've never seen them.

MichieBee: I completely agree. The script and the set and the actors they got just made it amazing. It really could have been done badly, with the topic, but it wasn't.

Thanks for the other ideas of seeing Patrick Wilson. I don't believe I've been him in anything else, so it would be interesting!!!

I LOVED this movie. Another good, but even more disturbing, Ellen Page is An American Crime. It is the true story of a girl who was tortured by her temporary guardian. Very heartbreaking but very good film.

L.J. Boldyrev: Wow, I'd never heard of it but it does sound like really good one. I'll have to check it out. I'm glad you loved H.C. too. Thanks for the comment!
