Exploring the Magic World of Harry Potter: An Unauthorized Fact Book

Exploring the Magic World of Harry Potter: An Unauthorized Fact Book

Review: I'm a huge Harry Potter fan so when I was offered this book to review, I had to say yes. I wasn't sure how much of the information I would already know though since I used to know a TON. I'm not as invested in all H.P. news but I'm still a fan and want to know as much as I can when I have the chance. This is a fun book, especially for newer Harry Potter fans. They even connect some information from the books to real-life events like the Salem Witch Trials and WWII  which I thought was a bit interesting.

I enjoyed a part in the book where they line up Dumbledore with Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings to show you the resemblances between them through various quotes they have both said. I love quotes, for one thing, and it was fun to see the wise words both men had to give through their repsective series.

As I said, I love quotes, so I did enjoy a little break down in the book of some actors and actresses in the film. Included was a quote for pretty much all of them which was really fun. There is even a full list of the H.P. characters in the back, as well as other fun tidbits concerning the H.P. fandom.

One thing that I read that I thought was amusing, and hadn't heard before, was that J.K. Rowling's second husband looks a lot like her character, Harry Potter. He has the hair, the glasses...if you've seen a photo of her husband, you should know what I'm talking about!

In general, this is a fun book to add to any H.P. collection. It would be a great stocking stuffer this holiday season! For die-hard fans, you might find you know a lot of this or that the lists of things are something you do not need a refresher on; though it's always nice to have!

Sand Dune Books Between Me and You Journal

Between Me and You Journal -10/31

Do Not Own

Sand Dune Books

I was not compensated in any way for this post. The prize is being donated by the company.

-Lauren

Site: http://www.sanddunebooks.com/

I really love the idea behind Sand Dune Books. They sell Between Me and You journals. Inside each journal, there are a series of questions. Someone can buy this for you and answer the questions or you could always buy it for yourself...and simply have that person answer the questions.

They have books for Mom, Dad, Sister, Girl (friends), Reunion, Brother, Aunt, and more. They even have Mama and Papa for those that speak Spanish...which I think is a great idea! The name of the book is the person giving it to you...so Aunt is your aunt answering the questions, not you answering them for her. I hope that makes sense.

I personally really would love Mom so I could have my mom answer questions about me...it would be a wonderful token. I also think answering things for her (Daughter) would mean a lot as she loves personable gifts. I mean, really, who doesn't?

This is a great gift idea for any occasion. The holidays are coming up...but just think if you have a child graduating! You could give them this memorable token to keep for the rest of their life. Or ladies...have a BFF you want to know how much you love them? Give them the Girl book with your thoughts on your friendship!

I love that the book comes with all the questions and doesn't just give you idea notes on what to write. I'd much rather answer the questions and think about that, then brainstorm things to say on my own, you know? It makes it much easier.

I really want one of these...so if you're reading this oh secret best friends...get to ordering! :-)

Piczzle (Personalized Puzzle) Giveaway

Do Not Own. From The Site.
Piczzle Review + Giveaway

By: Lauren

Site: http://www.piczzle.com/index.php

I was sent a puzzle to review, but all other opinions are mine.

Review: I was sent a 24 piece cardboard puzzle to review. This thing is amazing! I used a picture of one of my friends and me. It's a bit of a silly photo, but we enjoy it and it holds some good memories...as well as an inside joke we've had for awhile. The box that the puzzle comes in is great. Just like one you would buy in the store, you see your photo all put together on the cover. They even have smaller versions of your picture on two sides of the box. It looks so professional!

Once you open it up, you have a small bag that zips holding all of your pieces. It's so fun to open it up and see part of your face or shirt in a puzzle piece. How fun!! I didn't make the whole puzzle, but I put a couple of the pieces together and it's so much fun. I love it. All the pieces are sturdy and you know they won't break or rip easily, and I really like that you can put all of them in a bag so they don't get lost in the shuffle of the box.

This is going to the friend in the picture as she is a really big puzzle lover, and as far as I know, she doesn't know personal puzzles exist. I didn't until I found this site and I'm glad I did! I think I'm going to get one of these for my younger cousin. He would probably get a kick out of having his picture be the puzzle and I know his parents would adore the idea. It would make a great gift for the holidays...and this is part of the Holiday Event...but for any other fun occasion as well!

The above photo is the one that I used for this puzzle. I told you it was silly! But the picture is perfect on the box and as the puzzle. I couldn't ask for a better present!

I should mention though that you need a certain quality and pixel count for bigger puzzles (the ones with more pieces as it goes up 2,000 pieces I believe). I was originally going to review a larger puzzle but I couldn't find a photo that was suitable, so we went down to a 24 piece. Not that I'm complaining! I love the puzzle and I think the thought is worth it. I know my friend loves to make her puzzles, tape the backs, and hang them up...so I'm thinking she might do that with this and then she only has to make it once. This is just to mention so you have it mind if you decide to order...or if you win!!

A Candy Store ($75 Worth of Candy) Giveaway

A Candy Store Review + Giveaway

By: Lauren

Note: I was given candy for a review and to test out what types of things you can get on this site, but all opinions are mine. The shop are sponsoring the giveaway.

Review: For my review, I was able to pick out a variety of candy...as long as it didn't go over $75. This is quite a deal...you can find all sorts of items for not that much! And there is definitely a wide selection of candy. Anything you want, you can most likely find at A Candy Store.

My first item for review is a 3 pound collection of chocolate covered chips. These are quite interesting, I have to admit. I was excited to check them out as sit sounds like a great idea. Chocolate and chips? Sweet and salty? Umm...yes please! I didn't like them quite as much as I thought I would, but that's not to say they are bad. My friend Amanda tried a few and she liked the after taste, while other friend thought they were "okay." As for me, I was a semi-fan. They aren't something I'd necessarily die to get again, but I would eat them if I had the chance. I suppose they aren't as salty as I thought they would be. Overall, not too bad though.

The next candy was the Chocolate Reception Stick Candy (96pc). This would be the perfect gift for someone that works in an office and has their own desk. There are a couple flavors I haven't tried yet. In all, there is Tangy Lemon, Spicy Cinnamon, Refreshing Mint, and Fruity Orange. I have personally tried the lemon and mint and really love the mint. It's the green and so so good. These are some great sticks for those that like a bit of mint and chocolate. The chocolate covers most of the stick, with just the top part open to show the color and have a taste without chocolate. It's sooo yummy and the chocolate has such a nice taste. This is just a little thing to eat on the go and I'd highly recommend!

My third pick was the 16 pack of Chocolate Mint Playing Cards. Having a card themed party? These would make excellent party favors...especially since you get 16 "cards" in one pack. Even if the theme isn't cards, I'd still suggest these anyway as they are very yummy. If you enjoy mint patties or the like, you would probably like these. Each piece is wrapped to look like a different card in the deck and once you unwrap it you get a chocolate bar with a layer of green mint in the middle. These aren't super hard, but they aren't chewy like a pattie. It's so good though and I love grabbing one randomly to mint up my breath.

And finally, I got the 48 count of Caramel Apple Pops. If you are around my age, you probably remember getting these at school. I used to get them every year on Johnny Appleseed Day in grade school and this cemented a love in my sister and me. I actually picked this for the review because my sister loved them. I even gave one to a friend and he enjoyed it as well. Of course, you have to watch out for the carmel if you want to choose the sucker...it gets stuck in your teeth easily! I love these and they would make wonderful gifts this fall for a party, around the house, or even at school!!

This sounds amazing, right? I bet you're drooling already and ready to run over to A Candy Store to find out what other fun treats they have. And believe me, there are a TON! It was really hard to choose what I wanted for my review and I know I'll definitely be back in the future to buy some fun items for parties, gifts, and just to have!!

Convertible Designs Giveaway

I was not compensated in any way to post this. The giveaway item is donated from the company. All opinions are mine.
-Lauren

Site: http://www.convertibledesigns.com/english/

My Thoughts-

One of the things Convertible Designs is probably most popular for are their kid jackets that get turned into "stuffed animals" if you will. You can have a ladybug, a frog, a beetle, or a turtle. They are super cute and I love the idea! Who thinks of these things?!

However, for today, I'm going to focus on something else that you can get from the site...spread the love around a little more. As you can hopefully see from the picture above, that is a toddler t-shirt with a frog that says "Fearless Frog." Cute, right? I can imagine one of my friends' little boys wearing this! After all, clothes for toddlers should not be crazy adult outfits made smaller, like you often see in stores these days. Let them be cute and fun! This would be a great zoo outfit, don't you think?

Since I love to read and we have many book reviews/giveaways/etc. on this site, I thought it would be fun to match up some of these shirts with some kids books. Grab the book, add the shirt, and it's a perfect and appropriate gift for the little one in your life!

For "Fearless Frog" I chose Frog and Toad are Friends by Arnold Lobel

Do not own.

See? It's perfect! What do you think though? Have any other froggy titles you would like to suggest?! And don't worry if your little one is just a bit too small. You can pick up a Fearless Frog onesie as well!

Next we have "Tough Turtle"...also available as a onesie too!

Do Not Own

For "Tough Turtle", I went on the search for a good book and found Terry, the Awkward Turtle by Russell Dauterman

Do Not Own

As you can see, they have some really cute tops and onesies...apart from their jackets...that you should definitely think of checking out. As I said above, add in a book and these are great gifts that nobody else would think of getting, so you don't hve to worry about double-gifting. Don't you hate that? Be original, and check out the site!

I also should mention that the t-shirts and onesies match up with the jackets if you didn't already notice...you can get the animals as a shirt, onesie, and a jacket. Perfect!

Now it's time for the giveaway and this is good for little ones AND adults!

Prize: a choice of any character product from the web store or a t-shirt with a character of your choice embellished in studs (available in kids sizes from 2 through 9 or youth-adults sizes XS-L). the size and color will be finalized upon request.

The Amanda Project: The Invisible I (Book Review)

The Amanda Project: Invisible I by Melissa Kantor

Review by: Lauren

Copy From: http://www.teensreadtoo.com

Amazing, Interactive Site: http://www.theamandaproject.com/

My Summary: Callie has a secret. Her mom is missing and her dad is letting himself fall apart. The only person that really seems to know what is happening is Amanda Valentino, the best friend that Callie hides from her popular social clique the I-Girls.

Except things get a lot more difficult when Amanda goes missing, leaving behind various clues as the search for begins. Callie finds herself becoming closer to outcasts Hal and Nia, also secret friends of Amanda...leading the question...who else knows about Amanda and can they add up all the pieces to find her?

Review:

The Amanda Project: Invisible I is just the start of an overall book series and I'm definitely excited. As you read, you realize that Amanda kept a lot of secrets...even from the people she was supposedly really close with. She seems like a genuinely good person though, as she does try and help Callie, Hal, and Nia...the only friends of hers we know of yet.

This book does not reveal Amanda's whereabouts of course, but with the ever accumulating notes and clues, it seems like Amanda might not be that far away. Of course, Amanda is not the only one missing either. Callie has no idea where her mom went and as you read, she starts to second guess the ideas she once had. But who can she talk too, when Amanda's gone as well?

I love the idea of this book, and that it will be a series with various authors picking up. The next book doesn't come out for another year, sadly, but I do know it's written in Hal's point of view (not Callie's) and the main author is a male instead of Melissa Kantor.

If you view the book's website, you find all sorts of fun ways to get involved in the book and you never know what or how you may show up in the series. It's all very fascinating and definitely a wonderful way to get people reading these books even if they aren't normally readers.

Product Perfect for This Book

Because The Amanda Project has such an amazing website set up for people, they also have a cool shop. You can buy sweatshirts, buttons, and even t-shirts. On the smaller side, I put a button picture above. It says "I Heart Amanda" and comes in a pack of five. I love that this is something you could put on a bag or purse and nobody would really know what it meant. It's a secret fandom!

Price: $4.95

You can buy your own Amanda swag here.

Design a Mosaic Giveaway ($49.99 Value)

I do not own this photo. It comes from the company site.

Design a Mosaic Giveaway

Prize: 16x20 Photo Mosaic (can use up to 2,000 photos)

Open To: U.S. and Canada Only!

--Lauren

Design a Mosaic would make an amazing gift for pretty much any occasion. This can be for the Holiday, a Wedding, a Birthday, a Birth, an Anniversary, etc. etc. All the usual things you can think of, but I believe it would also make a really great "You're a Good Friend" gift if you so choose. You have a main picture of whatever you like...if you were doing friends, then one of your friend or the two of you. Then the whole picture is made up of a ton of tiny pictures. If you click the photo above, it should become bigger so you can really see the other pictures that make up the main one. This is such a fabulous idea and I'm insanely jealous of whoever wins this!

If you're like me and want unique ways to save photos, then this would definitely be a good idea. I personally scrapbook, though haven't had as much time, and I'm obviously still missing a ton of photos...so I may have to look into Design a Mosaic for myself soon.

As you can read above, the prize is for a 16x20 mosaic which is SO GREAT. I even added above, just so you aware, you can use up to 2,000 photos for this...so you better start looking through your memory cards or old photo albums.

This giveaway is sponsored by the company. All other opinions are mine, I was not compensated in any way. Design a Mosaic kindly offered to help with my Holiday Event!

Now on to the giveaway stipulations! Remember, this is for the U.S. and Canada only!

Premiere Collectibles
Site: https://premierecollectibles.com/

Looking for a wonderful gift for that book lover you know? Maybe they are just a little fond of books, but have a secret celebrity crush on Tori Spelling or Apolo Ohno? Well, with this site, you can buy them not only the book but an AUTOGRAPHED copy of the book. It really is a premiere collectible! And wonderfully enough, they have offered my readers a book of their choice. You'll have to read on to find out all the fun details though.

I included the cover of Tori Spelling's latest memoir because it's something I think my mom would love. I gave her one of Tori's books last Christmas and she really enjoyed it. Imagine if that was actually autographed! And guess who else is on the site? Former First Lady Laura Bush...bet you'd love her autograph, huh?

And I suppose you're now thinking...these must be horribly expensive, but they really don't have to be! Yes, some are if they come in a collector's box or a special copy...but other basic hardcover books that are simply autographed are only around $25!!

Ready for the Giveaway? I thought so!

It's CHRISTMAS TIME Up In Here!

Yes, that is a Christmas tree above. I know it's only October 1 and everyone else seems to be having blog events about Halloween and all things spooky. However, I want to jump to Christmas. I love Halloween, but I thought it would be nice for all the products I feature if we did things early. This way you have all October to see all these fun things, possibly win some, and then all of November to buy the things you liked but didn't win!! You'll be all set for December. No need to rush, or even not be able to buy something because the event was in DECEMBER!

So be sure to keep following the blog for lots of fun reviews and plenty of giveaways. I'll even try and focus on some companies who I didn't work with but have some awesome products you might enjoy.

It's going to be great, so I hope you all enjoy it. There are also some other non-Christmas events I'll have going on in October too...so be sure to read those information posts and take part with that. Some involve giveaways, some are auctions, but it's all good stuff.

As for the September giveaways...thanks for entering and I'll try and get the winners figured out this weekend. Also, Linda Gerber has a launch party on her blog for Trance where you can already start winning some amazing prizes. Be sure to go there and see!
