R is for Recycled Album Art

Interview with Recycled Album Art

Questions by Lauren

all images from their site. They are currently having a Santa Sale, hence the prices on top of the photos

1. Your shop is all about coasters, which you make from recycled album covers. How did you decide on coasters?

The idea for coasters evolved around the love of music and woodworking. We decided to laminate the cover to a piece of 12x12 inch piece of wood. Then to cut the piece into 9 squares. We struggled with what to call our creation. Finally we decided that they were more like a coaster than anything else.

2. Since you work with so many albums, do you have a personal favorite album, and has it been made into a set of coasters yet?

We have so many personal favorites. We have some that have super graphics while another is a favorite because of the music. Recently we sold a Jimmy Buffet album that had the most attractive cover. It was like a portrait painting of Jimmy. I had a hard time selling it.

3. Are your customers allowed to request custom coasters, and how should they go about doing so?

We accept special requests. The best way to get a special request started is by emailing us. We need the artist name and album title. If we have one available from our inventory we will start working on it. We have been known to order the album from ebay or Amazon. We also will accept an album that is sent to us by the person requesting the coaster set. From the date we receive the album it will take close to 30 days for the set to be completed.

This is a unique gift. I might feel bad ruining the album cover, though. Thanks for sharing! :)

I can think of quite a few people this would be good for! I should look into this - I'm thinking especially for my dad who used to have a very impressive record collection and then had to give them all away. Thanks for the recommendation!
