J.K. Rowling Published Under a Pseudonym

photo from article
We all know that J.K. Rowling's adult debut was The Casual Vacancy...but sneaky author that she is...she published an adult mystery novel under the name Robert Galbraith. The first book, in what appears to be a new series, is titled The Cuckoo’s Calling.

You can read all about the novel and its unmasking over at The Telegraph.

J.K. was quoted as saying:

I had hoped to keep this secret a little longer because being Robert Galbraith has been such a liberating experience. It has been wonderful to publish without hype or expectation and pure pleasure to get feedback under a different name.
Personally, I love mystery novels so I really want to check this out. I love J.K. (of course!!) but it's also a novel that just sounds good.
Here is the summary for those interested: After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Strike is down to one client, and creditors are calling. He has also just broken up with his longtime girlfriend and is living in his office.

Then John Bristow walks through his door with an amazing story: His sister, thelegendary supermodel Lula Landry, known to her friends as the Cuckoo, famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man.

You may think you know detectives, but you've never met one quite like Strike. You may think you know about the wealthy and famous, but you've never seen them under an investigation like this.
You can buy the book as a hardcover or kindle edition on Amazon.
What do you all think about this J.K. Rowling novel? Will you check it out?

I do like mysteries though admittedly I don't read much in the adult department. I'd like to check it out though!

I heard about this last night! That's so crazy and cool. And I saw that it's already #1 on Amazon. I do think it was cool of Rowling to write under a name with no recognition.
Thanks for sharing!

I was reading about this today. I didn't love The Casual Vacancy so I'm not sure if I'll pick this one up or not.

Heehee, she is such a sneaky Slytherin!! I will definitely be reading this. I've already requested a copy from NetGalley and I checked out a bookstore for a hard copy... unfortunately, they had only one copy and it was bought only just prior to me arriving! I should think the publisher will be reprinting more copies now that everyone wants a piece though.

I heard about this and was surprised that it managed to be a secret for so long! And it's funny that a reviewer commented that they wouldn't be surprised to find out later that it was a big author and then, here it is, a BIG author!
It does sound pretty good! I haven't had an urge to read The Casual Vacancy, but this sounds much better!

I'm not surprised she did this especially with the majorly negative reaction she got from The Casual Vacancy. I don't envy her in the expectations people would put on her and the pressure that would bring. Everyone always comparing one work to another. I love mysteries too so I'll have to check this out. :)
