Waiting on Wednesday: The Connicle Curse

Waiting on Wednesday is a feature from Breaking the Spine

The Connicle Curse by Gregory Harris

Due Out: February 24, 2015

I've been really into mysteries this past year, and while browsing Netgalley, I came across this title. I didn't request it because it's the third book in a series so I would rather start with the first. At any rate, I really think this one sounds great! What are you waiting on?!

Official Summary: Victorian London’s private detective Colin Pendragon learns that the cost of wealth can indeed be dear as he investigates the grisly fate of a well-heeled financier…

When wealthy Edmond Connicle suddenly disappears, his distraught wife enlists the services of master sleuth Colin Pendragon and his loyal partner, Ethan Pruitt. Already on the case, however, is Scotland Yard’s Inspector Varcoe. He suspects the Connicles’ West African scullery maid of doing in her employer, especially when a badly burned body is discovered on the estate grounds with a sack of Voodoo fetishes buried beneath it.

But all is not as it seems, and as more bodies are found, the pressure mounts on Varcoe, forcing him to forge an uneasy alliance with his nemesis, Pendragon. At the same time, Mrs. Connicle’s fragile mental state appears increasingly more precarious. Could madness, not black magic, be at the root of these murders? To untangle the twisted truth, Pendragon and Pruitt must penetrate the hidden lives of the elite and expose the malevolent machinations of a ruthless killer…

This sounds good Lauren, I love books set in the Victorian era and if there is a good mystery too, well that's even better.

Ohhh yes I've been really digging mystery/detective stories lately... especially English ones! I'll like this one if it's anything like Cormoran Strike. Course, this one has the added bonus of taking place in Victorian times!

Ahh, this is such an amazing pick!! I love the vibe that this book is giving off, that eerie slightly creepy kind of thing. I've been looking for a really solid mystery these days, and it seems like this series is one I must pick up! I can't believe this dude has to make a pact with his enemy. Think of all the plot twists and character development that could come from that!! I'm excited just thinking abou it.

Lovely pick. <33

I love a London setting. I also enjoy mysteries. I've been too busy for NetGalley, but hope to use it again heavily this summer.

I love a good mystery, and this cover would definitely be enough to make me want to start at book 1 too!

I'm waiting, with both dread and longing, for Saint Odd, which comes out next week. Dread, because it's the last book in the Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz and I'm not quite ready to say goodbye to one of my favorite characters, and longing, because I hope my Odd one gets a happily ever after. ;)

I don't read many straight-up mysteries, but I could make an exception for one that takes place in Victorian London. Thanks for putting it on my radar ;)
