Getting Him Back by K.A. Mitchell

Getting Him Back by K.A. Mitchell

Review by Lauren

source: copy from Netgalley; all opinions are my own

Official SummaryEthan may have followed his high school sweetheart to college only to get dumped his first day there, but he's not going to let that stop him from exploring all his new life has to offer. Sex-only hookups, his photography, new friends and a campus-wide game of zombies vs humans all help keep his mind off his broken heart and move him toward building a new, better life without his ex.

And then there's Wyatt. Mysterious, grouchy—hot. And possibly not gay. But Ethan's not going to let that stand in the way of figuring out what makes Wyatt tick. New college goal? Get Wyatt into bed and into Ethan's life.

Step one: arrange a "tutoring" date. Step two: "accidentally" bump into Wyatt as often as possible. Step three: explore the sexy body under that ever-present hoodie. And when their friendship deepens into something neither of them expect, convince Wyatt he's not just a pity fling or a one-time hookup, but that Ethan is in it for the long haul.

Review: First off, Goodreads lists this as Ethan and Wyatt #1, which must mean that the next book is also about these two characters and I'm all for that!

As for Getting Him Back, Ethan chooses his college based on where his boyfriend is, but that soon backfires when he is broken up with. However, Ethan soon meets Wyatt (his ex's current roommate) and he is immediately intrigued. He's not sure Wyatt is actually gay, but he does want to get to know him regardless and find out what's behind Wyatt's prickly exterior.

One thing I love about romance novels is when there is more to the characters and the story line than just these two people. Wyatt is more of a loner and he's carrying a secret that could greatly affect how not only Ethan sees him, but other students. As for Ethan, he has more people in his life (who end up playing a fun zombies vs. humans game across campus) and he's definitely more outgoing. He goes after Wyatt more than Wyatt goes after him, but it works. I liked that these two characters exhibited a bit of "opposites attract" syndrome. They don't seem like they should be together, but they do make sense the more you learn about them.

Getting Him Back comes out today, but it's one I read a couple months ago, and I'm still thinking about it. I could definitely see more about Ethan and Wyatt being written in the future, and I hope I'm right!

Sounds interesting enough, but not really my cup of tea. I have been incredibly finicky about books lately - mainly indulging in children's fantasies. :P

I'm glad the story stays with you a while after reading it - that's a good sign IMO.

This one sounds fun. It sounds like instead of moping after getting dumped Ethan just pulls it together and carries on. How refreshing! lol

This is why you shouldn't pick colleges based on where your SO is going! But this sounds like a cute story and I am really intrigued by this zombies vs humans game! :D
