Honey Girl: The Hawaiian Monk Seal by Jeanne Walker Harvey

Official SummaryHawaiian locals and visitors always enjoy spotting endangered Hawaiian monk seals, but Honey Girl is an extra special case. She has raised seven pups, and scientists call her Super Mom. After Honey Girl is injured by a fishhook, she gets very sick. Scientists and veterinarians work to save Honey Girl until she can be released back to her beach. This true story will have readers captivated to learn more about this endangered species.

Review: This is such a cute picture book. First off, I love the illustrations and how realistic they almost seem to be. As for the actual story, it was a great tale of Honey Girl or "Super Mom" who who helped and rehabilitated by the Hawaiian people so that she could go back to the ocean and raise even more pups. This was such a sweet story - I could see it being a good book to read with kids around Mother's Day since a big theme of the story is a mother's love.

The story is a fairly simple read, but there are a lot of details included. It's definitely a great way to learn about Hawaiian monk seals and even a little about the state of Hawaii. The back of the book even includes some extra facts and references for the curious child - or adult! I do enjoy these additions to books because I often finish a book wondering more about what I learned within.

All in all, Honey Girl is a really cute read and perfect for kids of all ages!

Well this looks adorable! I think my little cousins would enjoy this book. I have two little cousins that are many years younger than all of us "big" cousins, and I'm always on the lookout for picture books for them. Wonderful post!

Have a great week. =)
